May’s astrology reflects both uncertainty and a desire to know. It’s a lighter month than April (especially the beginning of April), but with several planets going retrograde, things could feel still. (Keep that word in mind if you feel stagnant or stuck. You’re not! You’re just being called to be still.)

Significant astrological cycles are starting this month, each ushering in beginnings and endings. So, May will be a mix of energies. On the one hand, we will be ready to have a return to normalcy after sheltering in place. On the other hand, with those retrograde planets, we move more slowly than we’d like.

We could also face new awareness about the social and economic influence of COVID-19 as Venus goes retrograde and invites us to look carefully at our finances. Pluto is already retrograde (as of April 25), which makes us look at issues like debt.

While the Sun is in Taurus (until May 20), grounding exercises can relieve any stress you feel about love and money this month, as these will be the two main areas of life that will grab your attention. Ground and center by spending time in nature, creating art, exercise, baking or cooking, cleaning/decluttering, gardening, and working with crystals. Venus loves beauty, food, connection, and pleasure. Make your Venus happy to balance any fear or stress. (She also loves retail therapy, carbs, and sugar, but do those in moderation!)

On May 4, the North Node enters Gemini and the South Node enters Sagittarius. The nodes change signs every 18 months, and when they do, our focus shifts to whatever themes are most strongly represented by the North Node’s sign. The South Node’s sign represents what we’re clearing, fixing, and healing. The North Node has been in Cancer for the past 18 months, a sign all about home and family. It’s fitting for us to be spending more time at home, sheltering in place, at the end of this cycle. Cancer is also about nurturing through food. We’ve learned the value of familial relationships, the importance of having a safe, nurturing space, and our need for emotionally secure connections.

The North Node in Gemini will focus our attention on fine-tuning how we communicate, share ideas, and pass on our news. We’ll be more interested in learning, reading, and teaching – sharing knowledge. We are also learning to discern what’s the news and what’s fluff, separating fact from fiction. The days of “fake news” will hopefully end during this 18-month cycle, as we become more interested in knowing the details of the stories we read and hear. It’s time to tap into your inner investigative researcher in all areas of your life. We’ll also be more locally minded, with a focus on building community.

The North Node in Gemini causes us to question what we transmit through the airwaves, which means masks might be the fashion statement of 2020 and into 2021. (You can read more about it here.)

We are clearing South Node in Sagittarius themes, which include fanaticism, delivering inflated information as truth, and intolerance. Sagittarius is also the sign of travel, and we will see changes in the travel industries throughout this cycle.

On May 7, the Scorpio Full Moon is intense! The Sun is close to Mercury, giving this Full Moon an analytical quality. You will want to know the truth, and you could even discover uncomfortable truths about yourself or someone else. Fortunately, this Full Moon taps us into our hearts in a way that opens us to compassion, empathy, and big love.

On May 12, Venus goes retrograde until June 24. When the planet of relationships and money goes retrograde, we face the past and reevaluate the decisions we made. Think about what was happening in the summer of 2012. Venus goes retrograde in the same sign she was in at the time – Gemini. Similar themes will play out for you this time. The main lessons you will learn during this retrograde cycle center around self-worth and personal value. Challenges in relationships will bring you back to reflect on those themes. You can read about this cycle here and see what it means for your sign.

Saturn and Jupiter are also retrograde around that time (May 10 and May 14, respectively). It’s a time when you will reflect on your year so far and ask how you can have more meaning in your everyday experience. These retrogrades allow us to face our perceived limitations, so we can overcome them to recognize possibilities for our lives.

Finally, I’m wishing a Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers!
