Designer Profile: Natasha Schweitzer

Jewelry is a deeply personal affair. Designer Natasha Schweitzer takes that to heart when designing her bold and sophisticated jewelry line. Simplistic, geometric, and architectural designs are prevalent in each of her collections, bringing a unique distinction to her brand.

What is your background, and how did it lead you to becoming a designer? My mother Marion is an amazing jeweler and designer with a business spanning over 40 years, so I suppose it’s in my blood. I actually spent 6 years at university studying Journalism and Public Relations, so I sort of tried to do my own thing for a while. Deep down I have always had a huge creative spark in me, and one day I woke up and realised that what I really wanted to do was already right in front of me.

What is most appealing to you about designing jewelry? Jewelry really doesn’t have boundaries. Sure I consider the fit, weight, and price etc., but truly anyone can wear jewelry and look fantastic. Jewelry is also incredibly personal, and I love that pieces I design are treasured forever.

Tell me about your personal aesthetic. How does it remain unique within the industry? Unfortunately, I don’t think a lot of things remain unique anymore, especially in this industry with social media exploiting every trend. I think perhaps my seasonal ideas create an interesting mix of simplistic and wearable designs, but in a unique and quirky way. Every season I try and think what I want to wear rather than studying what other people have done before me – I think designs from the heart really are the most unique.

What type of woman did you have in mind when designing the line? Any woman or man who appreciates beautiful, timeless and quality product.

Jewelry really doesn’t have boundaries.

Tell me about the creative inspiration behind the collection: This collection has so many different inspiration points that I couldn’t even begin to remember where I first thought of an idea. I try not to overthink the design process and rather let it naturally evolve when we start making the first samples of the collection. Simplistic, geometric and architectural designs are always prevalent in my collections.

Who are your favorite designers? Sarah Staudinger from Staud and Rosie Assoulin.

What’s next? What do you hope for the future, for yourself and the brand? We would love to open more boutiques in Australia, and maybe even internationally one day. Personally, I would love to write a book.
