UltraShape is an alternative to Liposuction, how does it differ? UltraShape differs from liposuction in that its non-invasive, and there is no downtime whatsoever. Three treatments with our Ultrasound UltraShape technology that uses sound waves only, and fat cells are permanently destroyed taking off 2cm on average per abdominal treatment. In some cases UltraShape is actually used to repair irregularities that occurred as a result of liposuction.
What are the cosmetic benefits to UltraShape? UltraShape provides a smooth and uniform treatment and is often used as a correction post CoolSculpting and post Liposuction for divots, and irregularities often seen following these procedures, which are not seen with UltraShape due to the smooth even nature of the energy delivery. In essence, UltraShape works to contour your body in a nonsurgical way, so you’re free of anesthetics and incisions. No un-wanted signs of treatment are left after the procedure, but the results are evident after the patient finishes their treatment protocol.
How does the treatment itself work? UltraShape is the first and only FDA cleared, non invasive body shaping procedure to use focused, pulsed ultrasound energy to selectively destroy fat cells. UltraShape’s gentle ultrasound energy destroys the walls of fat cells in your body and releases that fat in the form of triglycerides. Those triglycerides are then processed through the liver and eliminated from the body naturally. Meanwhile, the surrounding tissue, nerves and muscles are left completely unharmed. After the exact treatment area is determined a specially designed belt will be wrapped around your abdomen and a soothing gel will be applied to your skin. A trained UltraShape technician will glide the UltraShape transducer over the treatment area, gently delivering virtually painless ultrasound pulses. Treatments take about an hour. While you relax UltraShape is hard at work destroying those stubborn subcutaneous fat cells. For the best results, treatments should be scheduled 2 weeks apart and performed 3 times over the course of 6 weeks. The best part about the UltraShape results is that the fat that gets destroyed never returns!
Who makes for a good candidate for this particular treatment, and how many treatments are often necessary? A good candidate for UltraShape would be someone with a BMI of 30% or less. Ideally, those that are stable in their weight and do not have major fluctuations are the best candidates for this procedure.
For a patient who is hesitant, what do you recommend as a first course of action? Our first goal is to educate our patients on the procedure. This can mean coming in for a complimentary consultation to have your questions answered by one of our knowledgeable experts, or performing independent research and reading the reviews from other patients who have had the procedure themselves. Realself.com is a tool that we use and recommend to patients who want to know what people are saying about any specific treatment.
What is the typical recovery time, and what do you recommend to patients post-treatment? There is no recovery time. You’re back to all your normal activities the same day. Post treatment, we recommend that patients drink lots of water, and limit their alcohol and caffeine consumption the week following the treatment series. Engage in light cardiovascular activities for at least 30 minutes a day. Maintain a healthy diet, and do not gain weight during the treatment series. Adhere to the regular two week schedule until your treatment package of three is complete.
